Summer School 1

It would be a whole lot easier, and cheaper (in both financial and psychic costs) if we at the observatory just stayed in our offices and did our work. That's my greatest temptation, and why I can go days without ever setting foot outside the observatory walls (especially since I live just upstairs from my office).

Instead, once every two years, we throw open the doors to two dozen very bright astronomy students from around the world, plus their equally bright (and demanding) instructors, for a four week summer school. Having all these strangers roaming our narrow corridors just rips apart the tranquility of our setting. It's disruptive. It's scary.

It is absolutely what we need to have happen every now and then.

The students arrived last night; first class starts in an hour.
