Post Con

I thought I would have a chance to relax, the week after Chicon. Ha! I had more free time during the convention... evidence: I started reading a book I bought at the dealers' room then, but haven't even found where I packed it. Haven't even had a chance to look, yet.

Tuesday I got a grand tour of FermiLab, including a walk through the tunnels where high energy beams once roamed, courtesy of Todd and beamjockey; along with us were my friend Dennis (high school buddy, apartment mate in the 1980s) and I guy I'd met at the con, the artist Dave Howell (he did the Hugo base in 2009, was a nominee himself in 2010).

Wednesday I met up with Christopher Graney, who's published a bunch of stuff on the history of science in the 17th century. We spent two hours in the basement of the Adler Planetarium with Marv Bolt looking at old books and talking about everything.

Thursday I madly prepared my talk at Dominican University, and then gave it. We (beamjockey and Kelley and I) had dinner ahead of time with our hosts there, including a Dominican priest, Richard Woods. Fr. Woods was talking about the menagerie of animals he used to care for, and reminded me of a character in a Bujold novel, so I innocently asked, "Do you read fantasy?"

beamjockey burst out laughing. "He's written a book with Anne McCaffery"...

Meanwhile, this morning, before running off to my next event (being filmed at the Adler) I am reading Making Book, and discovering what tnh was thinking about 30 years ago...
