Blogging when I should be writing...

I spent last week at the International Space Science Institute in Bern, Switzerland, with a team trying to make sense of asteroid Vesta. We may be the first group to look at all the data, together, from so many different points of view; at least, I see no evidence that the Dawn team found any of the glaring issues we came up with. I think I have proved that Vesta is impossible.

So, anyway, I wrote the first draft of a paper on that topic, which is now awaiting the comments of the other team members. I think it might make a small note in a specialist journal. The team leader wants to send it to Science or Nature.

But that meant that I got no writing done on my 12,000 word chapter about cosmology for the Medieval Science Fiction book… which I have known about for a year, but only started writing the Friday afternoon of the day it was due. (On the train home from Bern.) I told the editor I would have it to him on Monday.

Fortunately, concerning the text of Would You Baptize an Extraterrestrial, my co-author hasn't gotten his comments on the manuscript back yet; if he had, I would be working on that book instead. Having missed our November 1 deadline, the manuscript is now due on December 1. (Which is... when? Tomorrow? Surely you jest.)

On a daily basis, I use what I learned in high school English far more than what I learned in high school science or math. If only I had learned to read a calendar.

Yeah, the single course which has done me the most good professionally was the touch typing I took in high school. :-)

IIRC, the "problem" is that Vesta shows signs of differentiation, but it's not all concentric to the body as a whole.

calendar challenges
Yes, I have been somewhat in the same pickle for the last several months, just facing a somewhat lower word count. I once knew how to read a calendar, but seem to have been having more trouble of late. Frankly, I think December is here a month too early. Are you sure we had October?

Here's hoping you made the Monday deadline! I only have 500 words to produce in the next 90 minutes.

Here I was feeling like tail-end Charlie on that Medieval SF book. I got mine in just after midnight.
